Artist's Statement
Milenko Katic'
My work is between representational and abstract, sometimes more or less to one or another direction. My new work is mixed media which includes drawings, acrylic, crayon, prints, photos, and found objects from trash or recycling containers. I first make collage on board or canvas from my daily reading or activity, like news papers, magazines, billes, personal notes and other "stuff" that have impact on my life. On the collage I use acrylic, crayon and sometimes found objects to create a new work. Small works are studies in acrylic, pencil and crayon. Large pieces are finished works in acrylic or mixed media. Each piece is protected with varnish.
p.s.
In today's world, some art critics consider that contemporary painting is dead, because all contemporary painters more or less are repeating styles and method of previous generations. My new works are my reaction to the idea of contemporary painting being dead.  By combining different techniques and styles, I paint almost recognizable subjects to create an illusion of there presence.  By doing so, my intention is to remove the meaning from my subjects,  "This is not a horse,  this is a painting."
